Principal Server Engineer for Payments

Job Description

As a Principal Server Engineer in the Wix Fintech group, you’ll architect and develop scalable payment solutions that power millions of businesses worldwide. You’ll take ownership of complex distributed systems and mentor engineering teams to shape the future of our global payment platform.

In your day-to-day, you will:

• Architect high-performance payment processing microservices using Scala
• Lead critical technical initiatives across provider integrations and system optimizations
• Mentor engineering teams on distributed systems and scalable architecture patterns
• Drive technical decisions for mission-critical payment infrastructure components
• Design solutions for international payment methods and regulatory requirements
• Develop public APIs enabling third-party integrations with Wix Payments
• Scale microservices architecture to handle growing transaction volumes

Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in backend development, with a proven track record of building large-scale distributed systems
• Strong knowledge of system design principles, concurrency patterns, and distributed architecture
• Experience driving technical decisions and mentoring engineering teams
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex production issues
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across multiple teams and stakeholders
• Experience with Scala — an advantage
• Prior fintech or payments industry experience — an advantage

We are Wix’s Backend Engineering Guild. We provide integrated tools for microservice development within Wix to help improve developer productivity and best practices. These tools streamline the development process and reduce cognitive load, allowing Wix Engineers to concentrate on their domain, architecture, and business logic. To handle high-scale traffic (over 500B HTTP requests per day) and 500+ daily deployments, our team of 500 Backend Engineers runs production across 19 distributed data centers and cloud vendors worldwide.
