Virtuace on behalf of our client — American insurance company is looking for a SQL Database Administrator to join our team.
Role summary:
The Database Administrator is responsible for design, development, and support of enterprise class database systems. The DBA administers the companies traditional RDBMS and Non-relational databases as well as new cloud storage, in-memory databases, Database as a Service (DBaaS) and Data Lakes.
To support existing applications the DBA effectively manages the resolution of application production issues, adheres to all IT change management and incident reporting requirements. Additional support activities that include license management, installing upgrades and patches and, when required, analyze, design, sizing, and implement changes to enhance functionality or to accommodate new business projects. When an application, underlying software or hardware infrastructure has reached the end of its lifecycle the Database administrator is tasked with identifying and implementing replacement solutions to meet business objectives.
Responsibilities:
• Performs as a database advisor and consultant
• Participates in cross-functional meetings with stakeholders to understand database requirements and produce options/solutions
• Provides subject matter expertise on all aspects of database management including Database design, capacity management, security, backup & recovery, disaster recovery, performance tuning and automation
• Ensures the performance and reliability of the global database environment inclusive of both cloud and on-premises systems
• Performs advanced troubleshooting for problems
• Works with Project management, infrastructure, portfolio teams, and developers in coordinating system wide updates, upgrades and patch management
• Provides recommendations and coordinate the direction for the implementation of enhancements or changes that may involve custom design, optional software and third-party products to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the systems
• Monitors and maintains performance metrics for systems
• License management
• Performs configuration, change management, and testing activities as required to support DevOps process
Required skills:
• 3+ years of experience in database administration, particularly with Microsoft SQL
• Full technical knowledge of RDBMS and NOSQL databases
• Experience in data modeling; conducting performance tuning, backup, recovery, scalability, and capacity planning
• Track record of engineering performance and availability solutions.
• Experience with NoSQL — preferably MongoDB, MySQL and PostgreSQL- is a plus
• Experience with BI tools/modeling for high-scale Analytics
