The Role

TuneIn, a leading provider of audio streaming services, is seeking a Backend Engineer (Database, Platform) to join our Platform Engineering team. The Platform Engineering team is integral to managing our production tools, including AWS, CloudFlare, and GitHub self-hosted runners. This role will focus on designing, implementing, and maintaining OLTP database systems, ensuring optimal database performance through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning.

You will collaborate closely with platform engineers, infrastructure engineers, and other IT staff to meet business requirements, and provide on-call support for critical database issues and performance bottlenecks.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in designing, implementing, and maintaining OLTP database systems.
• Ensure optimal database performance through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and tuning.
• Participate in developing and implementing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases.
• Work closely with platform engineers, infrastructure engineers, and other IT staff to meet business requirements.
• Provide on-call support for critical database issues and performance bottlenecks.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience with database administration, development, or engineering.
• Strong understanding of MySQL database management.
• Knowledge of database design principles, query optimization, and performance tuning specific to OLTP systems.
• Experience with SQL and scripting languages.
• Experience with Version Control Systems (Github or GitLab).
• Familiarity with database security practices and disaster recovery techniques.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of cloud services (AWS) related to database hosting and management.
• Experience in a DevOps environment.
• Experience with other popular programming languages (Python, Go-Lang).
