Svitla Systems Inc. is looking for a Senior Back End Microservices Engineer for a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Ukraine. Our client is a cloud-native cybersecurity company that helps organizations automatically and continuously minimize the attack surface of their cloud workloads.
You’ll join the team, focusing on the design, development, and maintenance of high-performance, scalable microservices.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional experience in backend development, with a significant focus on microservices in production.
- Strong knowledge of Go (Golang) for building high-concurrency, distributed microservices.
- Advanced knowledge of Python with frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying RESTful APIs at scale
- Advanced k with Kubernetes (deployment, scaling) and Docker.
- In-depth understanding of relational databases (MySQL), including complex query optimization
- Experience with NoSQL databases (Redis) and real-time analytics (ClickHouse)
- Solid understanding of API security — Keycloak, JWT, OAuth 2.0, and input validation.
- Experience writing comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) for deployment, monitoring, and scaling.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
- Understanding of observability tooling: monitoring, logging, and alerting.
- Strong experience with Git with collaborative development workflows.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures and streaming data processing.
- Knowledge of performance tuning and optimization for Python and Go applications.
- Strong communication skills for cross-functional collaboration with product and front-end teams.
Mandatory Requirements:
Production microservices ownership (not just “worked on”):
- Experience in owning at least 1–2 services end-to-end (design → build → deploy → on-call → incident fixes → scaling);
- Be comfortable with service boundaries, APIs, versioning, backward compatibility, SLAs/SLOs.
System design & architecture (senior bar):
- Knowledge of design systems with tradeoffs: latency, throughput, cost, reliability;
- Knowledge of patterns: idempotency, retries, timeouts, circuit breakers, async workflows, queues, eventual consistency;
- Understanding of data design: relational vs NoSQL, caching, indexing, migrations, multi-tenant considerations (if relevant).
Strong debugging & problem-solving in real-world scenarios:
- The ability to take an ambiguous production issue and drive it to resolution.
- Expertise in structured approach: reproduce → isolate → instrument → hypothesis → validate → fix → prevent.
Linux fundamentals (practical, daily-use):
- Be confident with commands/tools like: ps/top/htop, journalctl, systemctl, netstat/ss, lsof, curl, grep/sed/awk, strace (bonus), log parsing;
- Understanding of networking basics (DNS, TLS, ports, timeouts).
- Docker + container runtime competence
- Understanding of Dockerfiles, layers, multi-stage builds, image size/security;
- Experience with debug containers: env vars, volumes, entrypoints, networking, resource limits.
Observability/logging/diagnostics:
- Strong understanding of structured logging, correlation IDs, trace context;
- Knowledge of metrics + tracing + logs as a system;
- Experience with Datadog is mandatory, or a very credible equivalent (Prometheus/Grafana + OpenTelemetry + ELK) with proof they can ramp quickly.
Platform maturity:
- Familiarity with CI/CD, release processes, and rollback strategies;
- Familiarity with basic security and reliability hygiene (secrets mgmt, least privilege, rate limiting).
Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable backend microservices in Go.
- Collaborate with product managers and front-end teams to define API specifications and integration points.
- Ensure services are deployed, monitored, and scaled efficiently in a Kubernetes environment.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and planning sessions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues to ensure high availability and performance.
- Drive continuous improvement in development processes, tooling, and infrastructure.
