Qualifications and skills

• Around 10 years of experience in software engineering
• Hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails (v2 and/or v3) — current tech stack competency can be different (Node, React, Python, etc.)
• Full-stack development experience (we could potentially consider very strong back-end engineers though) — Ruby/JS
• Ability to work autonomously, without constant oversight
• Ability to make decisions independently and lead the local tech team

Nice to have:

• Being tech-agnostic will help
• BIG PLUS: Having held leadership roles in the past (taken architectural decisions, built and managed teams)
• Soft skills; Ability to take ownership; Product mindset — knows and likes to take initiative, dig deeper into the product need, and offer a technical solution; Good communication skills; Likes to mentor and lead people

Good to have:

• Someone with C++ and socket networking experience would be great because such people have a lot of fundamentals in place
• The candidate should have solid enterprise experience
• Working experience with Netty
• 10+ years of experience instead of 7+ is a nice plus

Responsibilities

• The engineer in this role will be working together with the business and product team to comprehend business requirements and implement new features and support the existing platform. There will be a full suite of development work, including re-architecture, refactoring, building out new features and modules (some from scratch), analysis and breaking down of business requirements, migrations, etc.
• There are a lot of services and operations/processes being done by hand in the grant management lifecycle — and there are plans to digitize all of these steps and cover them by engineering new services and features
• Upgrades to existing technologies (versions) are possible later down the line
