We’re looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET), whose your primary will be to focus is to design, develop, and implement features for an in-house testing framework, infrastructure, and proprietary tools aimed at enhancing QA processes, with a specific emphasis on test automation for Unreal Engine. You work alongside senior engineers and the Lead SDET, take ownership of well-scoped tasks end-to-end, and grow your depth across the C# and Unreal Engine sides of the stack. Your secondary focus is on supporting the Test Automation Engineers and QA teams in their testing efforts and ensuring the automation tools and frameworks effectively meet the team’s evolving needs.
Superpowers you have:
- 3-5 years of professional experience in software development or a technical QA role.
- Hands-on experience with Game Engines or Game Development, ideally with contributions to a shipped or live Unreal Engine title.
- Demonstrable experience implementing REST API endpoints in production code.
- Experience writing automated tests (unit, integration, or end-to-end) in C# or a comparable language.
- Strong C# knowledge: experience working with modern .NET and unit testing frameworks such as NUnit. Ability to adapt to various .NET development frameworks, such as ASP.NET, EF Core, Avalonia, Blazor or WPF.
- Unreal Engine 5: must be comfortable working with C++ to create plugins and interact with the engine’s reflection system
- Experience with the implementation of RESTful API endpoints, with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
- Solid understanding of version control systems.
- Familiarity with test management and bug tracking software (e.g., JIRA, TestRail).
- English Proficiency: advanced level, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- A proactive and collaborative mindset, with a strong ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment, but also autonomously.
- An eagerness to learn new technologies and continuously improve your skills.
You’re a rockstar if you have:
- Familiarity with automated testing for games.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and JUnit-style test reporting (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Familiarity with engine-side profiling and performance analysis (UE Stat system, UnrealInsights).
- Familiarity with multi-process coordination or network socket programming.
- Experience with image capture, screenshot comparison, or visual verification tooling.
- Computer Science degree or in relevant field.
- A genuine passion for video games and a deep appreciation for the player experience.
- Other programming languages are a plus.
Becoming part of Room 8 Group, you will:
- Design, develop, and maintain features across our test automation framework for an Unreal Engine product.
- Implement features into an existing suite of test automation tools — including, but not limited to desktop applications, REST API endpoints, report generation and automated test design tools.
- Develop custom tools and utilities to improve testing efficiency, reporting, and defect analysis.
- Write and maintain test coverage for the tooling you build; debug and root-cause failures.
- Collaborate closely with developers, designers, Test Automation Engineers and QA analysts to identify automation opportunities and ensure comprehensive test coverage.
- Provide day-to-day support to the Test Automation Engineers on the effective use of our test automation framework and tools.
- Challenge code quality and best practices through active participation in code reviews for both game code and test automation code.
- Investigate and debug complex technical issues and contribute to the resolution of technical challenges under the guidance of senior engineers and the Lead SDET.
