We are looking for an energetic and positive 3rd Ops Engineer to join our BIT Ops Team.

Any individual wishing to fill this role must have attention to detail, an attitude of continuous learning and delivering the best solutions, good communication skills.

Your initial goal will be to take responsibility for GCP infra where Big Data Platform runs, so at the beginning your day-to-day activities will be focused only on GCP environments.

After you learned GCP infra and being able to fully support it you’ll share your knowledge, experience and tasks with 2nd Engineer and start your onboarding to BI AWS infra.

This is an exciting opportunity as the Playtech Central Cloud Data Platform is a relatively new project, so there is a lot of opportunity to shape the technology, architecture and implementation of the Data Platform of a large multinational software services company.

Team description

BIT Ops Team is a part of Platform Operations Unit.

“Ops as a Service” is our work approach. Main team goal is​ Stable and Predictable, ​Highly Available and Secure Platform, that built according to the best practices and project requirements, with ​established Standards and Processes!

We strongly believe in automation of all processes, strive to use DevOps methodology and culture with collaboration, CI and CD principles.

We’re building and maintaining innovative infrastructure using Kubernetes, CNCF projects and Cloud services running in AWS cloud. We currently support only AWS infra for BI AI services with plenty of custom services, pipelines and systems. Mainly used by Development and Data Science Teams.

We’re going to support and maintain also GCP infra for Big Data Platform. Mainly used by Data Engineering Team.

Project description

BI Unit within Playtech is responsible for developing real-time AI services: recommendation engines, churn detection, safer gambling, and more.

The unit is also gathering all data resources across the company to allow advanced analytics and Big Data processing to deliver insights and advantages to Playtech and its customers.

The unit has almost 30 developers from 5 different teams: data engineers, data scientists, ops, back-end, and front-end developers.

The Data Programme team within Playtech is now centralising Data from many business units in the Cloud, allowing users internal and external to leverage data insights across the business. Data customers include many products and our AI, and data service teams.

Teams function with the passion, freedom, and attitude of a start-up, yet with the resources and customers of one of the world’s biggest gaming companies.

Our data services utilise modern technologies and delivery approach, however there is a lot of room for improvement, especially as we scale both datasets, and users (this is where you come in)

The Data team’s products we believe will be leading within the gaming industry and are at the heart of Playtech’s future and we would like you to be part of that future too.

Responsibilities

• Lead Ops activities in GCP infra (at least initially)
• Delivering solutions with understanding business needs
• Resolving real-time disruptions in Production
• Deploying and maintaining numerous environments from Dev to Production
• Deploying and maintaining infrastructure systems and processes
• Building and improving Continuous Delivery capability
• Maintaining and improving systems in predictable, highly-available and secure manner
• Establishing standards and processes
• Cooperating directly with other teams to solve problems
• Implementing new solutions and migrating services without downtime
• Documenting system implementations and procedures

Qualifications

Required

• At least 5y experience with Linux on system level
• At least 3y experience developing Infrastructure level systems
• Solid understanding of Networking
• Strong knowledge of DevOps Practices and Tooling (Culture, Microservices, CI, CD, GitOps, IaaC, LMA)
• Strong experience with Cloud platform, preferably GCP (especially with VPC, IAM, GCS, BigQuery, VPN)
• Strong working knowledge and experience Kubernetes orchestration system
• Good experience with organizing infrastructure, preferably Terraform
• Be passionate about automation of processes and running systems in a highly available manner without downtimes
• Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to work independently
• Desire to learn, develop new skills and grow professionally

Preferred

• Experience with Apache Airflow, Big Data and ETL pipelines
• Strong experience with AWS Cloud (especially with IAM, VPC, EC2, EKS, S3 services)
• Strong experience with monitoring platforms, especially with Prometheus Stack
• Strong experience with Helm/Kustomize and Kubernetes Operators usage
• Experience with Service Mesh and Ingress concept (preferably Istio), Cilium, AWS CNI, Kubernetes Autoscalers
• Experience with GitOps ToolKit for Continuous Delivery
• Strong experience with Jenkins/GitLab for Continuous Integration
• Database administration skills, preferably Cassandra, Kafka, Redis
• Worked in an Enterprise environment of many collaborating services from multiple international teams
• Experience in the gambling/gaming industry
