Design Engineer (Design Systems) (вакансія неактивна)

We’re looking for a design systems specialist who can take a system from Figma to production.

This role is not about polishing screens. It’s about building token-driven design systems and turning them into real code using Claude code or Cursor.

You’ll own the system end-to-end: from tokens and components in Figma → to coded components and Storybook documentation.

What you’ll do

• Build token-driven design systems for SaaS and complex digital products
• Design scalable component libraries and UI patterns in Figma
• Use Claude Code / AI tools to generate and structure component code
• Build and maintain a Storybook library of coded components
• Prepare clear system documentation so product teams can ship UI without drift
• Work directly with engineers to keep design and code aligned

Skills that matter

Design system architecture

Experience building systems with:

• design tokens
• component libraries
• variants, states and scalable component logic
• theming (light/dark, brand variants)

Strong UI craft

• visual hierarchy
• typography systems
• spacing systems
• interaction states

Advanced Figma

• variables and token structure
• auto-layout and responsive components
• component properties and variants
• scalable multi-theme libraries

AI-native workflow

Experience using AI tools to generate and structure UI code. Especially:

• Claude Code
• Cursor / AI coding tools
• translating tokens and components into code by AI

Design → code understanding

• understanding how UI components map to code
• ability to structure components for development
• building and maintaining Storybook component libraries

Accessibility

Understanding how to design systems with WCAG / APCA accessibility baked into components.

What we’re looking for in designers:

Project ownership.
At Other Land, designers do more than just design. You take ownership of the project, understand business goals, user needs, and technical constraints, and stand behind your solutions in front of the client and the team. You will always have support from a Design Lead, Project Manager, or Mentor.

Strong communication skills.
Designers at Other Land work directly with clients and teams. You should be able to clearly explain your design decisions and the reasoning behind them. Strong English is required (🇺🇸).

Ability to work autonomously.
We don’t use time trackers (unless requested by a client). Instead, we rely on trust and expect designers to manage their time, take responsibility, and deliver results independently.

Strong portfolio of real products.
Usually this means at least 2 years of experience working with real products or clients. Your portfolio should show practical solutions and the level of expertise our clients expect.

Other Land is a small product design studio of 11 people focused on thoughtful, high-quality product design. We work with both startups and established companies, helping them improve products, solve complex UX problems, and build strong product experiences.

For our clients, we’re not just an extended design team. We act as partners who bring fresh perspectives, design strategy, and practical solutions while respecting product constraints and business goals.

Our team works remotely from different countries. We meet weekly on Zoom to discuss projects and share knowledge, and occasionally meet in person in Kyiv or other European cities.
