PROJECT OVERVIEW

Our client is a high-growth insurtech startup with a vision to streamline the experience of insurance distribution through smarter software. We’re a leading agency management system providing the core underlying data architecture for MGAs, MGUs and Wholesalers in the specialty insurance sector. It’s a niche sector but a growing one. And we’re a disruptive actor in a landscape of complacent incumbent operators.

Our team is fully distributed with key team members spread across multiple time-zones in the United States and Europe. All team members have a proven track record of being a go-getter, capable of leveraging internal and external resources to help execute on our business strategy.

The Role

Our platform is based on the Symfony framework. We are close to completing a major refactor of the back end, where we integrated a remote service fully into the main platform, and we have a strong roadmap of features to start working on. These features are going to be heavy on APIs — both as a consumer of 3rd parties APIs, but also offering API features to our own customers and their partners.

To address this roadmap, we need an experienced Symfony developer to:

1. Use the Symfony framework to the best of its potential.
2. Integrate with APIs, both as consumer and provider.
3. Work with our testing tools, methodologies and best practices.
4. Ensure excellent performance and security.
5. Be on-point on the Symfony/PHP tech radar, flagging up any tech that could serve our product.

Whilst this is mainly a Symfony focused role, there is nothing stopping you from being involved in deployment, JavaScript, automation, back end, database, performance tuning... We’re looking for someone smart to help drive us forward, not a drone in a box.

The project team:

Product Manager, QA Engineers, and 11 developers from different locations (US, UK, Hungry, Romania, and Egypt).

Growth/development prospects:

• You’ll have real prospects for technical growth on this project, as the team consists of Strong Middle/Senior level specialists.
• The project allows improving the English level as well: workflows involve correspondence (regularly Slack and Zoom meetings) with US colleagues.

REQUIREMENTS

• 5+ years of experience with PHP and any PHP framework (we use Symfony).
• Understanding of OOP.
• Experience with relational databases (we mainly use PostgreSQL but anything in that space is fine).
• Experience with JavaScript.
• Experience with Git.
