Current Role & Growth Opportunity:
Through research and experimentation, our BI Data Architect we will develop, refine, and disseminate best practices for developing BI Products using our in-house metadata management software (MedeCreate). We will apply these best practices to our products through hands-on development as well as collaboration with other Product Development and Implementation teams.
As a Professor of Best Practices, your responsibility is not only to gather, create, and document the development guidelines, and employ them yourself, but also to mentor other engineers so they adopt the practices into their workflows. The goal is to incorporate best practices into the initial implementation of all new development, not to act as a code janitor cleaning up afterward. You will not only teach best practice, you will implement controls to enforce it.
It is your responsibility to work with engineers throughout the organization to become intimately familiar with the challenges they face, and help them overcome them. Your job is to think beyond the perceived confines of the system and devise better ways to get the job done.
Using your excellent technical writing skills, you will write detailed proposals for improving products. Using your powerful communication skills, you will present the ideas to garner support from stakeholders. Your proposals will be reviewed by Product Owners and Engineers as well as Client Implementation Teams.
Backed by your proof-of-concept investigations and concrete testing results, and with approval from stakeholders, you will write technical (non-functional) requirements for implementing changes to products. You will explain the requirements at a high level during presentations to broad audiences, and delve into the finest details during collaborative meetings with developers who are to implement the requirements. You will actively participate in the development yourself as well.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
You must be self-motivated to improve our BI products in all respects. That includes their technical implementation as well as the development process itself. You will be expected to review existing implementations of BI Products for continuous improvement in various areas:
Data processing speed and efficiency
Analytics performance for the end-user experience
Coding Standards and Maintainability
Modularization, Encapsulation, Reusability
Product Interoperability — refining, streamlining, and generalizing the interfaces between products and their components
You will make recommendations for improving our product development workflow to implement guardrails for enforcing coding standards. This may include changes to the development environment software itself in which our products are created.
Our product improvement initiatives affect the Product Development Team as well as the Implementation Team responsible for making the products work for our individual clients. Throughout the development process, you will work closely with both of these teams to guide them throughout the implementation of product improvements to ensure the requirements are met and that the coding adheres to documented standards.
As a member of the BI Product Architecture Team you will be expected to perform the following types of activities:
Track all issues raised pertaining to the architecture of our BI Products, along with ideas for potential solutions.
Perform in-depth diagnosis of performance problems, including query execution profiling, load testing.
Conduct research on long-standing issues to find potential solutions that leverage our existing technologies or use alternative technologies.
Analyze data from a wide array of clients to ensure product logic works effectively in all cases.
Assemble isolated test environments that simulate real client scenarios for the purpose of performing various types of investigations:
Replicating known issues such as performance problems
Comparing alternative solutions to challenges
Perform proof-of-concept investigations that incorporate new methodologies for building our analytics solutions
Contribute expertise and development time in massive BI Product refactoring initiatives that are currently in progress or planned for the future.
Continuously refine and document general coding standards, and promulgate them within the organization to engineers.
Design and implement enhancements to products that make them more fault-tolerant and self-diagnostic.
Report progress toward goals on multiple concurrent product improvement projects.
Stay abreast of the latest methodologies and technologies. As an integral part of the R&D department, our team will be the first to try out new technologies at MedeAnalytics to determine whether they are truly useful. You will prototype solutions to our real-world problems using new technologies as they trend in the industry.
