HIRO is seeking a Senior Systems Software Engineer who will work with a small and dynamic team to explore and develop innovative systems software stack to manage the edge data center. The systems software stack will be based on Linux, containerization, Kubernetes and the CNCF ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have experience with distributed systems, cloud and edge computing technologies along with a good understanding of the networking, storage and internals of typical public cloud services.

Job Description

• Focusing on next-generation technologies. Programming polyglot. Enterprise private cloud and DevOps Engineering Lead. Best practices in IT DevOps operational processes.
• Experience with implementing Open Source
• Writing clean, high-quality, high-performance, maintainable code
• Develop and support software including applications, database integration, interfaces, and new functionality enhancements

Goal oriented, self-motivated, well organised, open-minded, continuously expanding knowledge with courses and exams, ability to focus on the target solution. Developing and maintaining positive working relationships both internal and external.

Technical KEY SKILLS:

Bachelor’s, MSc or equivalent in Computer Science or a relevant work experience. PhD with research background and scientific publications is a definite plus. Strong fundamentals in distributed systems design and operations.

• At least 5 years of experience in a senior software engineer/architect role. Startup experience a plus.
• Expert knowledge and experience working with Unix/Linux systems.
• 3 years of experience in containerization and Docker. Some experience with other alternatives such as podman or singularity is a plus.
• 2 years of Kubernetes expertise, active contributor to Kubernetes highly preferred.
• Real world strong hands on experience with Containers and Kubernetes along with proven competence with the CNCF stack (Prometheus, Istio, etc) is a plus.
• Experience with automated configuration tools such as Terraform and Helm
• Experience with Databases and Datastores such as: Postgres, Redis, ElasticSearch, ...
• Experience and background with Kubernetes CSI, CNI, CRI and Devices plugin.
• Solid Experience with Programming languages such as: Python, Golang, C/C++, Rust, Java. Expert in a systems programming language such as Golang or C will be a definite plus.
• Software Development Lifecycle best practices (CI/CD , DevOps, etc)
• Good understanding and experience of data analytics software such as Big Data tools (Spark, Flink) and ML/AI (Pytorch, Tensorflow) is a plus.
• Cross-platform problem solving (server-network, server- database, application-load balancer etc)

Other Skills:

• Motivated to learn new technologies
• Problem-solving versatility and resourcefulness and ability to think independently and take actions to solve problems.
• Effective communication skills, verbal and written to bridge the business and technical communities, as well as willingness to travel to and present at key conferences in our industry (e.g Kubecon, Google Next, Re-Invent)
• Experience working in a remote team
• Developing and maintaining positive working relationships both internal and external.

Work is from home office anywhere in the Netherlands. For non EU-applicants HIRO will apply for working permit for Holland. Dutch government provides substantial tax benefits for 5 years, financial child support.

Annual Salary 60-70k Euro
