SW Backend Engineer

🌍 Location: Kyiv, hybrid work.

A recruitment agency, HiringWise, is currently looking for a SW Backend Engineer to join a Software Development team working closely with both Platform and Business stakeholders to build scalable and efficient data solutions. The team focuses on improving data exposure processes, exploring new technologies, and continuously adapting systems to support growing business and technical demands.

Tech stack includes:

• Java
• Clojure
• Google Cloud Platform (GCP) & AWS
• Kubernetes (K8s)
• Kafka
• DataDog

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the development and evolution of the company’s Data Warehouse solutions
• Take ownership of features and services throughout the full development lifecycle — from architecture and implementation to deployment and production support
• Work with high-scale data pipelines processing petabytes of data
• Tackle complex engineering challenges where solutions may not always be clearly defined
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers and engineering teams to deliver impactful customer-focused solutions
• Improve system scalability, reliability, stability, and overall performance
• Stay up to date with emerging technologies and evaluate new tools and approaches to support system growth and innovation

Requirements:

• 3+ years of software development experience with strong engineering mindset
• Experience working with JVM-based languages
• Hands-on experience supporting and developing production systems
• Experience designing and building APIs for backend/server-client applications
• Solid SQL skills
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies, frameworks, and programming languages
• Strong collaboration and communication skills
• Good spoken and written English

Nice to have:

• Experience with Clojure
• Background working with large-scale distributed databases or enterprise data warehouse solutions such as BigQuery or Snowflake
• Experience in software architecture and system design
• Experience building ETL pipelines using Spark/Scala
• Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform
• Degree in Computer Science or a related field
