Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, relevant Engineering, or equivalent experience
8+ years of experience in leading distributed, engineering teams
Hands-on leadership experience going into the details for software architecture, design, code, build, test, and deploy (15+ years of experience in software engineering roles)
Experience in mentoring engineers on development best practices (design reviews, code reviews, secure code, test-driven development, etc.) (5+ years of hands-on experience building scalable, resilient, consumer-facing mobile and web, distributed solutions)
Experience in driving design discussions among engineers and product owners
Experience in managing production applications and continual improvements
Ability to articulate thoughts in English language
High collaboration skills with experience leading through influence

About the Role.
The Director of Engineering is responsible for steering our global engineering team to deliver Joy to our members and ultimately, confidence and satisfaction with our customers. We are seeking a leader who can match our product vision with high impact individuals who are interested in distilling simple solutions from complex healthcare concepts. Lead a talented Software Engineering organization to deliver innovative, high-quality products on a foundation of architectural and engineering excellence.
Work cross-functionally with other SDLC roles and business teams to define, deliver, and support the products.
Act as the software guardian, partnering with architects on architectural decisions, technical debt, and technology roadmap.
Provide leadership in engineering best practices, including agile development methodologies, distributed architecture, design patterns, code quality, and CI/CD.
Represent and collaborate with software engineers in planning, designing, coding, and day-to-day technical decision making, in adherence to priorities, scope, milestones, and software best practices.
Assist in the evaluation of third-party products and services; and work with third-party engineering teams for external integrations.
Collaborate across teams for technical issues in both software development and production.
Continuously look out for new technologies and practices.
Drive continuous improvements in engineering practices.
Manage performance metrics for software engineering.
Recruit, manage and retain engineering top talent.
