Hathway is searching for an exceptional backend Node.js developer to join our growing web engineering team based in the Dallas, TX area, reporting directly to our Web Technology Director located there, but coordinating daily with our backend architect to make sure our efforts across projects and accounts are cohesive and efficient. As a Senior backend developer, you will be working to deliver highly scalable, fault-tolerant APIs that extend the capabilities of the other third-party platforms we use for the apps and websites that use the API.

What We’re Looking For
● 3+ years developing modular API backend systems using Node.js; implementation of a microservices-oriented backend system is a plus
● Deep experience with Node.js, JavaScript, npm, and common Node.js dependencies used in backend development
● Experience with AWS infrastructure products for deployment, as well as managing deployments across development, staging, and production environments
● Experience building server applications that adapt to various deployment conditions
● Experience integrating with third-party web services APIs based on provided developer documentation
● Deep experience with Git, including how to manage & handle merge conflicts as well as working in an environment with a strict Git process such as git-flow
● Great interpersonal and communication skills, and an ability to carefully listen when others speak and to respond in a respectful and diplomatic way to reach concensus (with both team members and our client stakeholders)

What You’ll Be Doing
● Responsible for implementing & maintaining a highly-scalable API platform that services e-commerce sites that do nearly $300+ million of revenue yearly
● Efficiently work and collaborate with the rest of the distributed engineering and strategy teams to make sure the APIs being built satisfy the documented business requirements and needs of the platforms that are consuming the APIs.
● Write comprehensive documentation for all public API methods using in-code documentation mechanisms, as well as maintain internal documentation on how the platform can be re-deployed & customized for other projects in the future
● Maintain the CI/CD system to ensure teams are notified of the timing & content of deploys to various test & production environments
● Maintain constant communication with your project manager and other developers to keep them posted on progress, blockers, and other updates critical to the project’s success.
