Flexifai is an AI-driven payment platform (PSP) serving both high-risk and traditional industries. We process millions of transactions through 80+ payment methods, including cryptocurrency, across Africa, Europe, and LATAM. Our platform is built on a scalable microservices architecture with a strong focus on security, automation, and high availability.
Our team of 80+ professionals works in a hybrid format from offices in Kyiv, Lisbon, Limassol, and London, as well as remotely across the globe.
We are building an anti-fraud function within our Risk & Compliance team.
We are looking for someone who understands anti-fraud not simply as a set of rules applied to payers, but who can see the entire transaction flow: how a transaction moves through the system, where it can break, and how those insights can translate into financial impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Rules, Limits & Prevention
- Build anti-fraud rules and emergency limits from scratch.
- Calculate and justify thresholds based on 3–6 months of transaction statistics.
- Backtest every rule before launch: assess how many transactions it will affect and what percentage of legitimate traffic will be impacted. Anti-fraud rules should affect only a fraction of a percent of normal traffic.
- Build the logic of the fraud prevention engine.
- Develop separate rule sets for card and alternative payment methods across LATAM, Africa, and Europe.
- Maintain blacklists and block payer entities when required.
- Regularly review rule performance: number of triggers, confirmed fraud cases, noise/false positives, missed fraud patterns, and thresholds that need adjustment.
Technical Anti-Fraud
- Monitor the correctness of provider callbacks. Real incidents have occurred at this stage, including amount manipulation and transaction confirmation based on the first callback instead of the final one.
- Own the daily technical reconciliation with payment providers: investigate discrepancies between our data and provider data (amounts, statuses, transaction volumes) and identify the actual root cause of each discrepancy.
- Identify technical vulnerabilities that allow transactions to pass when they should not: incorrect statuses, parameter manipulation, or behavioral changes after deployments.
- Participate in QA when launching a new provider or payment method: monitor the first real transactions and verify callbacks, statuses, and amounts before volumes increase.
- Define technical requirements for developers related to rules, limits, alerts, reports, and transaction analysis tools — describe the logic clearly enough for engineers to implement it without multiple rounds of clarification.
Monitoring & Analytics
Monitoring & Analytics
- Monitor anomalies at an aggregated level: spikes in transaction volumes and average transaction values by merchant, which may indicate that a provider-side anti-fraud system has failed or that something has broken.
- Monitor MID performance against card scheme thresholds and programs, including Visa VAMP and Mastercard ECM, from an infrastructure protection perspective.
Global Cases & Incidents
- Handle emergency situations: assess the scale of an incident, determine whether it is fraud or a technical issue, coordinate with Technical and Support teams, and prepare recommendations on whether to stop a provider or payment method.
- Investigate global fraud cases: build a hypothesis, validate it against data, connect transactions into a pattern, draw conclusions, and define a specific action — a new rule, limit, block, merchant inquiry, etc.
- Handle provider requests regarding suspicious transactions: identify merchants by ID, extract data from two processing systems, reconcile the data, and build transaction history based on email addresses and cards.
Any restrictive actions — such as stopping traffic or blocking a BIN — are agreed upon with the Head of Compliance.
Required Skills:
- 1+ year of experience in anti-fraud, payment monitoring, or risk within a PSP, payment gateway, acquirer, bank, iGaming/online casino, crypto, or e-commerce environment.
- Experience with high-risk or gambling traffic will be a significant advantage. Candidates from e-commerce or banking backgrounds are also welcome.
- Understanding of how anti-fraud rules are built: condition logic, thresholds, velocity checks, geographic and payment-method restrictions. We are looking for someone who understands not only how to review alerts, but also why a rule triggered and what should be done next.
- Technical understanding of the payment flow: transaction lifecycle, statuses, callbacks, routing, and data reconciliation between systems. This is a key part of the role, so hands-on understanding is highly desirable.
- Ability to work with transaction statistics: build datasets, calculate averages and distributions, identify anomalies, and estimate how much traffic a new rule will affect.
- Understanding of the balance between fraud detection and false positives: an overly strict rule can cost more than the fraud it prevents.
- Confident working with large datasets in Excel or Google Sheets, including lookup functions and pivot tables.
- Understanding of card processing mechanics: MID, BIN, reason codes, and card scheme threshold programs.
- Experience writing and managing technical requirements for developers will be a plus.
- Willingness to build processes rather than simply follow them: define logic, drive tasks through implementation, and continuously review and improve existing rules.
