Skills and Experience:

Master’s or Ph.D. in Cryptography or a related field.

At least 3 years of research experience in applied cryptography.

Strong knowledge of cryptographic systems, including Zero-Knowledge Proofs (e.g., zk-SNARKs, zk-STARKs), end-to-end encryption, secure group messaging, and related technologies.

In-depth understanding of decentralized architectures, peer-to-peer networking, and their associated challenges.

Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in cryptographic applications, such as Rust or Go.

Publications in peer-reviewed cryptography or security journals are highly desirable.

Project Description:

We are developing a decentralized private messaging protocol. A major challenge we aim to address is enabling large-scale group chats with end-to-end encryption for millions of participants. Current implementations, such as those in Signal and Matrix, are limited in scalability and the number of participants they can support. Expanding these capabilities poses significant challenges on both the cryptographic and infrastructure fronts.

This research will involve an in-depth analysis of existing end-to-end encryption methodologies, such as the Double Ratchet protocol (signal.org/...​ifications/doubleratchet) and the Asynchronous Ratcheting Tree protocol (eprint.iacr.org/2017/666). The focus will be on understanding these systems and exploring ways to extend their scalability and efficiency to meet the demands of large-scale group messaging.
