Project Description:
The project involves the development and maintenance of a professional 2D CAD application for macOS — a long-established desktop tool used by architects, interior designers, engineers, and hobbyists for technical drawing, floor planning, and design drafting. The product has a rich history on the Apple platform and is known for its intuitive interface tailored to Mac users.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Senior macOS Software Engineer to lead the modernization and feature expansion of a professional-grade CAD application for macOS. You will take ownership of a mature codebase, drive architectural decisions, and deliver a significantly upgraded product that meets the demands of today’s design and engineering professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of major new features and architectural upgrades to an existing macOS CAD application.
- Develop high-performance 2D graphics rendering using macOS native graphics frameworks (Core Graphics, Core Animation, AppKit drawing).
- Write clean, maintainable code in C, C++, Objective-C, and Swift, and guide migration strategies between languages where appropriate.
- Integrate and leverage AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude, or similar) to accelerate development velocity and code quality.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and designers; communicate technical requirements and progress clearly in English.
- Perform code reviews and mentor junior team members.
- Manage source code using Git and/or Subversion; track tasks and defects in Jira.
- Profile and optimize application performance for responsiveness and memory efficiency on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs.
- Ensure compatibility with current and upcoming macOS releases.
Required Qualifications:
- 6+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 5 years focused on macOS application development.
- Strong working knowledge of Objective-C and Swift.
- Extensive hands-on experience with the macOS SDK: AppKit, Foundation, Core Data, XPC, and related frameworks.
- Deep knowledge in C and C++ (C++17 or later).
- Proven use of AI coding tools (Copilot, Cursor, Claude, etc.) as part of an active development workflow.
- Proficiency with version control systems: Git and/or Subversion.
- Experience managing tasks, bugs, and sprints in Jira or a comparable project-tracking tool.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills; comfortable working in an international team environment.
Would be a plus:
- Solid understanding of macOS 2D graphics systems: Core Graphics, Core Animation, AppKit drawing, and the macOS printing system (NSPrintOperation, PDF generation).
- Demonstrated experience in CAD, computational geometry, or other graphics-intensive application development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of SVG: parsing, rendering, and export for 2D drawing interchange.
- Experience with the macOS printing system and PDF/PostScript output pipelines.
- Background in Metal or OpenGL for GPU-accelerated 2D rendering (a plus, not a requirement).
- Exposure to cross-platform codebases targeting macOS, Windows, or Linux.
- Contributions to open-source projects or a visible portfolio of shipped macOS applications.
What We Offer:
- A technically challenging greenfield upgrade project with significant engineering ownership.
- Competitive compensation package commensurate with senior-level experience.
- Fully remote position with flexible working hours.
- Work equipment provided if needed.
- A collaborative, engineering-driven culture where your decisions have direct product impact.
