Hello everyone!
BUILDCHECK™—a dynamic, venture-backed Stanford University startup—is looking for a talented Machine Learning Engineer to drive innovation in the construction technology space. We’re on a bold mission: revolutionizing construction workflows by building the industry’s first AI-powered “spell-checker” for construction blueprints. Our solution helps architects, developers, and contractors detect costly errors before they become expensive problems.
Your responsibilities:
- Lead the development and deployment of advanced LLM-based models.
- Build optimized Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines using Pinecone, LlamaIndex, and LangGraph.
- Fine-tune LLMs specifically for construction document understanding.
- Integrate LLM solutions into our scalable backend systems in collaboration with Product and Engineering teams.
- Design effective prompts to maximize model accuracy and reliability.
- Benchmark, evaluate, and enhance LLM performance continuously.
- Stay current on NLP, multimodal AI, and generative model advancements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
- 6+ years of software engineering experience with a focus on AI and Machine Learning.
- Hands-on experience fine-tuning and deploying large language models (LLMs).
- Proficiency working with pre-trained language models such as GPT, Llama, and Claude, including specialized fine-tuning for specific use cases.
- Experience developing retrieval systems (e.g., Pinecone, OpenSearch).
- Strong proficiency in Python and machine learning frameworks (e.g., Hugging Face, PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Proven experience deploying machine learning solutions on AWS services such as Lambda and SageMaker.
- Familiarity with LangGraph or LlamaIndex.
- Excellent analytical and collaborative problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience in multimodal NLP-CV system development.
- Knowledge of inference optimization (vLLM, TensorRT).
- Familiarity with ML lifecycle tools (MLFlow, Weights & Biases).
What else matters to us?
We’re looking for passionate individuals who thrive in startups, value impactful solutions, and enjoy ownership of projects that directly enhance our customers’ workflows.
Team and Culture:
Join our collaborative, rapidly growing team (currently ~15 people) distributed internationally, primarily in the US and Europe. You’ll work closely with the founders and an experienced engineering team that values agility, innovation, and practical problem-solving. Our work is guided by an exceptional advisory board comprising research directors and Nobel laureates from Stanford, MILA, ServiceNow, and DeepMind, providing strategic insight and domain expertise as we tackle complex challenges.
Interview process:
- Introduction interview
